Barry Manilow Will Have a Procedure for Cancer in His Lung.

Barry Manilow has revealed that he has been diagnosed with a cancerous growth in his lung and is set to have a surgical procedure.

Spot Found in Initial Phase

The 82-year-old singer, known for a string of high-spirited hits from "Mandy" has made him one of pop music’s enduringly popular performers, will have a procedure to take out a section of lung tissue in an effort to treat the illness, which is at an early phase.

“For those who have been following, I recently suffered from six weeks of bronchitis followed by a relapse of another five weeks.

“Despite the fact that I was recovered from the illness and returned to the spotlight in Las Vegas, my excellent physician requested an MRI just to be certain that there were no issues.

“The MRI discovered a malignant lesion on my lung that must be removed. It’s pure luck (and a fantastic physician) that it was discovered so early.”

Rescheduled Shows

He has delayed a series of planned shows, but stated he would be returning to perform by mid-February for his long-running engagement at the Westgate Las Vegas Resort and Casino.

He continued: “The physicians do not believe it has spread and I’m undergoing further tests to support their conclusion. So, that’s it. No chemo. Radiation therapy is off the table. Just rest and recuperation and classic TV.

“I’m looking forward to until I rejoin my home away from home at the Westgate Las Vegas for our Valentine’s weekend concerts.”

Professional and Personal Journey

Manilow is currently in the 16th year of a concert series at the Westgate Las Vegas. The singer has been in the public eye and publicly identified as gay in 2017, after wedding his partner of many years, Garry Kief in secret in 2014.

The duo were in a discreet relationship for more than 35 years. Last year, Manilow spoke about how vital Kief had been to him during his explosion in popularity in the 1970s.

“As my career exploded, it was just crazy. And, you know, returning to an lonesome hotel suite, you can get into a lot of difficulty if you, you know, you’re on your own evening after evening,” he said.

“But I found my partner right around when it was blowing up. And I no longer had to go back to those isolated suites. I had a person to cry with or to share joys with.

“I hope that aspiring artists don’t have to go back to those rooms by themselves, because you can make poor choices. I never did. But it was pretty lonely until I met Garry. And then it was joyful.”
