Jurgen Klopp states rejoining to lead Liverpool is theoretically possible.
The German coach, who left Anfield in 2024, indicated that rejoining the club is something that could happen. Klopp, following a hugely successful nine-year spell featuring a European Cup triumph and ending the club's long wait since 1990, now holds roles as head of global soccer within the Red Bull organization and providing guidance for the DFL.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
They secured the league title under Arne Slot, but many fans who revere Klopp would embrace the notion that he might come back one day. During an extensive chat, he explained to the podcast host: “I stated I won't manage another team within the country. So that means if then it’s Liverpool...yes. In theory, it could happen.”
“I’m 58, that means I could make the decision down the line, it's uncertain. Do I have to make the decision today? Then I will not coach again. But thank God, I don’t have to do that. I'll simply watch what the future brings.”
What Would Lure Him Back?
Questioned regarding the specific conditions must arise to tempt his return to management, he revealed he isn't eager to such a return. “It's unclear to me, I enjoy my current role,” he stated. “I don’t miss coaching; I avoid standing in the rain for lengthy sessions; I don’t miss going to interviews four times, three times a week or doing numerous chats a week.
“The locker room isn't missed in that context, but sitting in a restaurant with the players having a nice chat, that’s nice. Success was frequent so there was often a very good mood at the club. I can still hear Virgil [Van Dijk’s] laugh vividly recalled to illustrate.”
Praise for His Successor
Klopp was full of praise regarding Arne Slot, praising him for the adjustments which secured the championship last campaign. Liverpool have lost four consecutive matches in every contest following significant transfers, though he denied the idea that it might signal a decline.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, critics will regret if you use the wrong words. An outstanding player. Ekitike, incredible player. They have a strong thoughtfully assembled roster. Fans shouldn't fret regarding the Reds, things will improve.”
Heartfelt Words for the Late Forward
The manager expressed deep feeling on the loss of the Portuguese star, a player he signed in 2020, along with the consequences at the club. Jota died tragically in a vehicle collision alongside his brother in July.
“Can you substitute somebody like Diogo? It goes beyond his on-field talent, it's his character. I can’t imagine the squad absent his presence. I find it difficult to discuss on this topic. A devastating blow for his teammates also. Nobody at Liverpool might employ it to justify results but it is the situation. Entering the changing area where his spirit remains. Coping with it individually is difficult. Unbearable.”
