The Latest Casual Playlist Sparks Intense Debates Regarding Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times
Recently, Battlefield Studios introduced a new game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough setup but includes several key adjustments:
- Each team has only eight real players, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
- Activities done by real players grant complete experience points, while bot actions provide reduced XP.
- Just a pair of maps are available: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Elements like Dogtags, achievements, and career stat updates have been turned off.
So essentially, this mode lives up to its title: it's a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, one could assume there's nothing wrong, since it provides additional choices for gamers looking for alternative ways to have fun with the game. However, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many BF6 players are mad.
Community Reactions: From Fury to Praise
"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," says a different user. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," while another details everything they consider to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this bot mode."
However, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're liking the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to warm up, human participants keep it from being a total farmfest but it's quite laid-back," says one Reddit comment. "The community fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and can't play this game all the time. Let them strike a balance," adds a different comment. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," and someone else praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Criticisms and Player Feedback
All that said, players have constructive reasons to complain about Casual Breakthrough. Some users have highlighted that it could increase queue times even longer for different playlists due to the sheer number of options in the game already. Similarly, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the current modes. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.
Lastly, a major complaints is that Battlefield Portal was meant to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the system. So Casual Breakthrough feels like the community compromising halfway, as per forum feedback. A different user labels this mode as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I had great enjoyment in the first couple of days, why did they feel the need to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?
Should Battlefield Studios has demonstrated something so far with Battlefield 6, it's that they're listening and responding to player input. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, just like the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this new playlist isn't performing to their expectations, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
